About the Company

Our client is dedicated to revolutionizing urban deliveries. Their sidewalk delivery robot is a small, low-speed self-driving vehicle designed to divert deliveries away from congested streets, saving energy and reducing emissions, while making deliveries faster and cheaper. Our client has completed thousands of commercial deliveries in Los Angeles and San Francisco and is now looking to rapidly expand to cover the entire sidewalk delivery market, backed by top-tier investors.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer specializing in Mapping and Localization to join their highly skilled team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing core components of our next-generation mapping and localization engine, collaborating with other autonomy team members to maximize the utility provided by mapping and localization.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of SLAM systems
  • Strong C++ programming skills
  • Ability to design and build simple systems that evolve into complex systems without losing functionality
  • Desire to measure the value of your code by designing appropriate metrics and running experiments
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Bonus points:

  • Experience building cloud applications
  • Experience with very large geospatial datasets
  • Experience with CUDA programming
  • Experience with real sensors such as lidar, camera, RGB-D, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement key components of the mapping and localization engine
  • Build a mapping system that scales to city-sized environments
  • Collaborate to improve mapping annotation tools and the consumption of data using neural network-based approaches for safe traversable area navigation
  • Develop estimators and RTK-capable GPS data in the robot to eliminate uncertainty in its global localization
  • Work closely with other autonomy team members
  • Deliver production-quality code, participate in code reviews, and mentor junior engineers
